Siomai Lasagna
If you’ve seen the viral dumpling lasagna all over TikTok and Instagram, get ready for the Filipino upgrade: Siomai Lasagna.
This recipe takes everything you love about Siomai, one of the most popular Filipino street foods in the Philippines. Savory pork filling, juicy shrimp, garlicky aromatics are formed lasagna-style with dumpling wrappers. And the best part: it’s ridiculously good dipped in Tastebud Calamansi Barbecue Sauce, giving it that perfect sweet, tangy, citrusy Filipino kick. The result? A steamed, sliceable, saucy masterpiece that tastes like your favorite street food… but leveled up.
Ingredients
8 oz ground pork
2 oz shrimp, chopped very small
2 tbsp green onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 tsp ginger, minced
1 tsp oyster sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp grated carrot
6–9 wonton wrappers
oil, for brushing the wrappers
1. Lightly oil a 4x4 ramekin. In a bowl, mix together the ground pork, chopped shrimp, green onion, garlic, ginger, oyster sauce, sesame oil, black pepper, salt, and grated carrort. Mix until fully combined and slightly sticky.
2. Place two wonton wrappers in the bottom of the ramekin, overlapping slightly. Brush lightly with oil.
3. Spread a thin layer of the siomai mixture on top. Add another layer of wonton wrappers and brush lightly with oil again. Add another thin layer of filling.
4. Repeat until you’ve used up your filling, ending with a final layer of wonton wrappers brushed with oil.
5. Bring your steamer water to a boil. Place the ramekin into the steamer basket and cover.
6. Steam on medium-high heat for about 25 minutes, or until the pork is fully cooked and the center is hot.
7. Let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing. Drizzle with Calamansi Barbecue Sauce and Chili Oil and garnish with sliced green onions and fried garlic.
